Preparation
Ensure all bare metal surfaces are clean, smooth, and free from grease, dust, or other contaminants.
- Strip any old paint or varnish using Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and ensure the surface is thoroughly cleaned afterward.
- Remove loose or flaking rust with a wire brush or abrasive pad.
- Apply Rustins Rust Remover to affected areas to neutralize remaining rust and prepare the metal for priming.
Final Check: Ensure the surface is completely clean, dry, and smooth before applying Rustins Red Oxide Primer. Proper preparation ensures strong adhesion, corrosion protection, and a long-lasting finish.
Application
- Use a brush to apply the primer evenly and liberally, ensuring the entire surface is fully covered.
- 1 coat is usually sufficient. A second coat may be applied if needed. Lightly sand between coats if required for a smoother finish.
- Touch dry in approximately 30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity.
- Allow approximately 2 hours between coats, depending on ambient conditions.
- Ideal application temperature is 15-25°C. Do not apply outdoors if rain is imminent, in high humidity, or below 10°C.
- Approximately 10 m² per litre per coat, depending on surface absorbency.
