Preparation

Ensure the brick surface is clean, dry, and free from dust and contaminants.

  • Brush thoroughly using a wire brush to remove any loose mortar, flaking finishes, or surface particles.
  • Repair damaged areas by filling cracks and restoring defective pointing.
  • If efflorescence (white salt crystals) is present, remove fully by brushing or scraping before painting. After removal, apply a coat of Alkali-Resisting Primer and allow it to dry before using Rustins Quick Dry Brick & Tile Paint.
  • No primer is required on new brickwork or where fresh mortar has been applied to the pointing.
  • When applying over previously painted surfaces, first test the coating for compatibility. If incompatible, the paint may flake or may dry to an undesirably glossy finish.

Application

  • Use a large brush and apply the paint evenly. Work systematically to ensure full coverage.
  • One coat is usually sufficient; a second coat may be applied if additional coverage is required.
  • Touch dry in approximately 30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity.
  • Allow around 4 hours before applying a second coat if needed.
  • Ideal between 15–25°C. Avoid application if rain is imminent or in damp conditions.
  • Apply generously but evenly to achieve a smooth, consistent finish across the entire surface.
