Preparation
Ensure the surface is clean, smooth, sound, dry, and free from wax, dust, and other contaminants.
- On bare metal surfaces prime with Rustin’s Red Oxide Metal Primer.
- On bare wood surfaces, use Rustin’s Quick Drying Primer & Undercoat.
- For previously coated surfaces, clean thoroughly with Rustin’s Surface Cleaner or Rustin’s Sugar Soap, then sand lightly to provide a key prior to painting.
- Fill any cracks or imperfections with Rustin’s Wood Filler and allow to dry before sanding smooth. An undercoat may be applied if required.
Application
- Stir well before use. Apply light, even coats using a good-quality brush designed for water-based coatings.
- Work systematically in smooth strokes to avoid runs and maintain a uniform finish.
- One coat is generally sufficient; however, a second coat may be applied where extra coverage or durability is desired.
- It is always preferable to apply two light coats rather than one heavy coat, as this helps ensure even drying and reduces the risk of brush marks.
- Under normal conditions, the coating will become touch dry within approximately 30 minutes. Drying time may vary depending on temperature, humidity, and ventilation.
- Allow 3-4 hours before applying a subsequent coat. Ensure the first coat is fully dry before recoating to achieve the best finish and adhesion.
- For optimal results, apply in warm, dry conditions and avoid overworking the surface once applied.
