Preparation
Ensure the wood surface is clean, bare, and sanded smooth before applying Knotting.
- Knotting is designed to prevent discolouration of paint, not to block excess resin.
- Remove any excess resin from knots using a heat gun prior to decoration.
- If there are cracks or holes around knots, fill them with Rustins Woodfiller, allow it to dry, and sand smooth before applying Knotting.
Proper preparation ensures that Knotting effectively seals knots and resinous timber, providing a smooth, even base for subsequent paint or primer.
Application
Always test a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure you are happy with the finished results.
- Using a brush, apply liberally over the knot and surrounding area to ensure full coverage.
- Apply 2 coats for resinous or creosoted timber to ensure complete sealing.
- Do not sand the knotting after application.
- Allow 1 hour between coats to ensure proper drying.
- Wait 1 hour after the final coat before applying primer or subsequent paint.
- Ideal: 15–25°C. Do not use below 10°C or in high humidity conditions
Following these steps ensures that knots and resinous timber are effectively sealed, preventing bleed-through and ensuring a smooth, even finish.
