Preparation
New Surfaces
- Timber & MDF: Ensure surfaces are dry and clean. Fill defects with a suitable filler, sand smooth, and remove dust. Treat knots with two coats of fresh knotting. For hardwoods, clean with methylated spirits before priming. Prime with Crown Trade Wood Primer or Aluminium Wood Primer for hardwoods. Apply Crown Trade Full Undercoat.
- Metal (Including Galvanised): Clean thoroughly, removing millscale, rust, and residues. Wash with detergent, rinse, and allow to dry. Lightly abrade non-ferrous metals (except galvanised). Treat galvanised surfaces with Crown Trade T-Wash. Prime with Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer and apply Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.
Previously Decorated Surfaces
- Timber: Remove loose paint and sand to a sound surface. Treat knots, fill defects, and remove dust. Prime bare areas with Crown Trade Wood Primer (or Aluminium Wood Primer for hardwoods). Apply Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.
- Metal: Remove loose paint, corrosion, and residues. Wash with detergent, rinse, and abrade for adhesion. Prime bare metal with Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer before applying Crown Trade Primer Undercoat.
Ensure all surfaces are free from contaminants, dry, and properly prepared before painting.
Application
Stir well before use. Apply by brush or roller to an even thickness (a fine, soft long filament bristle brush gives best results). Maintain a wet edge. On timber lay off in the direction of the grain. Always intermix packs for colour consistency. Please check for colour accuracy prior to application.
Crown Trade Gloss has been formulated for interior use, but can be used for exterior projects. However, the manufacturer recommends using products from their exterior brands for external projects as their formulations are specifically designed for this purpose.
