Barrettine Water Seal - 5 Litre
Overview
Barrettine Water Seal is a highly effective, solvent-based water repellent designed to protect vertical surfaces from weathering and water penetration. Forming a breathable, transparent membrane, it allows trapped moisture to evaporate naturally while preventing further water ingress. Ideal for use on brickwork, aged concrete, render, pointing, terracotta, and wood, this deep-penetrating formula enhances durability and protection. However, it is not suitable for plywood.
- Deep-penetrating clear water seal for wood, bricks, concrete, and more
- Leaves a breathable, water-repellent membrane
- Dries to a matt finish on porous surfaces

Preparation
Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dirt, debris, and contaminants before treatment.
New Bare Wood
- Clean and de-grease with white spirit if needed before applying water seal.
Old Untreated Wood
- Remove and replace decayed wood, cutting at least 45cm beyond the damaged area.
- Use a stiff brush to remove dirt, mould, algae, or fungi.
- Treat affected areas with a mildew cleaner before applying Barrettine Water Seal.
Aged Brick or Concrete
- Remove masonry paint with Paint Panther Paint & Varnish Remover or allow it to weather for two years.
- Brush away dirt and debris before applying Barrettine Water Seal.
- Treat mould or algae with Barrettine Driveway, Decking & Patio Cleaner.
- Let dry for 24 hours, then rinse with clean water. Repeat if necessary for heavily contaminated areas.
Application
Always do a small test area before starting any project to confirm performance and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Do not apply if rain is expected. Only apply in temperatures of 5°C.
- Can be applied by brush, roller, spray, or dipping. Refer to the preparation notes on the side of the tin before starting.
- On vertical surfaces, always apply from the bottom upwards to avoid run marks and ensure even coverage.
- A second coat is recommended for optimum water repellence.
- Ensure the entire area is treated (e.g., the whole wall rather than isolated patches).
- Do not dilute - use the product at full strength.
Brush Application
- Often one coat is sufficient, but very porous surfaces may require a second coat.
- If applying a second coat, apply it before the first coat has dried to ensure proper penetration.
Spray Application
- Apply from the bottom of the surface, working upwards.
- A second coat may be applied if additional protection is desired.
Dipping Application
- Choose a suitable container large enough for the item being treated.
- Submerge the substrate for a minimum of 10 minutes.
- Remove and allow to drain.
- Before the item is fully dry, repeat the dipping process for at least 5 minutes.
- Remove, drain again, and allow to dry thoroughly.
Drying Time
- The surface is normally dry and water-repellent within 48 hours.
Close the container tightly after use and store it upright.
