Preparation
Allow all new surfaces to dry out completely. Remove all loose or defective paint and any powdery residues by thorough brushing and scraping with a stiff brush.
- Treat areas affected by mould, lichens, algae, or moss with Weathershield Multi-Surface Fungicidal Wash and allow to dry.
- Make good any minor surface defects. For larger holes or cracks, use a suitable sand and cement mix and allow to dry fully before painting.
- Surfaces that remain powdery, friable, or chalky after preparation should be sealed with Armstead Trade Stabilising Primer.
- Do not seal sound, new, or bare surfaces with stabilising primer.
- Do not apply Armstead Trade Smooth Masonry Paint during wet or frosty weather. Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contamination before application.
- Common Fletton bricks should not be painted (see BRE Information Paper Number IP22/79, Painting of Common Fletton Brickwork).
- Special precautions should be taken when preparing pre-1960s paint surfaces on wood or metal, as these may contain harmful lead.
Application
Always follow the manufacturers instructions found on the tin, it is recommended that a small test area is applied before painting the entire surface to ensure compatibility.
- Stir thoroughly before use. Ensure surfaces are properly prepared and dry.
- On very absorbent surfaces, apply a sealing coat of thinned Armstead Trade Smooth Masonry Paint.
- Normally, apply 1 or 2 coats of Armstead Trade Smooth Masonry Paint as required for full opacity and protection.
- Sealing new/bare surfaces: Add up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint.
- Normal use (not to be exceeded): Add up to 1 part clean water to 10 parts paint.
- Conventional spray application: Add up to 1 part clean water to 2.5 parts paint.
